Zoya Spring!

Happy New Year everyone!  I hope you all were safe last night! I stayed home and watched season 6 of Dexter.   Not the full twelve hours, but a good half of it.  :)

I had originally thought that I was going to wait until closer to the release date, but I'm seeing them pop up on blogs like Scrangie and Temptalia so I can only imagine everyone else will be following closely behind! (By the way, I encourage you to check out their swatches as well.  The color accuracy on these was super hard to catch and, even though I feel I did an adequate job, they may have a shimmer or something that I missed!)

What I'm talking about, if you hadn't guessed from the title, is the Zoya True and Fleck Effects collections for spring!  I was super excited for these, and I've been agonizing over what they will be like since Feel came out.  So, let's get started!
Zoya True: Spring 2012
Farrah, Cho, Bevin, Skylar, Tru, Lotus

Farrah
This first shade was the disappointing one.  We have seen so many nudes from Zoya lately, I was hoping they'd take a back seat for awhile!  Both photos are (strangely) color accurate.  It depends on what light you see it in!  The first photo reminds me of clay.  The kind you make pottery and stuff with.  It also reminded me of Skull and Glossbones from OPI. Those were the first two thoughts when I put this polish on!  Then, in a different light, you see the color that is in the bottle.  A camel sort of nude.  Application was great, it almost could have been a one coat polish and I needed minimal clean-up.

Cho
I had a friend over last night to watch movies, and he (that explains it!) asked if Cho and Farrah were the same polish.  At first glance, I thought the same thing!  However, Cho is a little more peach/yellow and it has a fine silver shimmer running through it.  I wouldn't call it metallic, as Zoya did in the PR, but it isn't cream.  I like this one a little better, but I really don't know if I'll wear either.  Application on this one was a little tricky.  It was really the only one I had any problems with.  I used three coats, and it was a little watery.

Bevin
Now they are starting to get better!  Bevin is a "soft sage green cream."  I immediately thought of OPI Stranger Tides.  I don't have it so I can't compare, but I'm really liking this whereas last year I wouldn't have looked twice at it.  You might be able to get away with using a single coat of this polish if you are careful, but I used two.  Formula was otherwise great as you would expect!

Skylar
Skylar is the first of the shimmer half of the collection.  She is amazing!  It is a medium sky blue with silver and gold shimmer in it.  I also sort of get the hint of iridescent shimmer.  Does anyone else see a little pink in there?  It was hard to catch, and in some lights you can just see the silver shimmer.  When I picked up the bottle I was underwhelmed for that reason, but I put it on and it's love!  Formula was great, again and two coats were used for these pictures.

Tru
This is a good one to check out on another site!  I got a fair representation of it, but it is SO beautiful in person!  Tru is a medium red-based purple with a magenta/red/copper colored shimmer.  I'm not sure what to call it!  It matches perfectly, though.  This is by far my favorite of the collection.  I gasped when I put it on!  Only two coats were needed for perfection.

Lotus
Lotus is a dusty purple cream with a pink shimmer.  I'm pretty sure this is Neeka's base, but with pink shimmer instead of gold.  I LOVE the combination!  This is a beautiful, and slightly delicate, purple.  Formula was good on this one as well.  The normal Zoya goodness!  Two coats above.

My overall impression of the True collection is good.  There was only one troublesome color, and I think I can find an appropriate time to wear them all.  If I could have, I probably would have skipped Cho and Farrah though.  As nice as they are, I'm not sure I'll wear them more than once.  Maybe they'll make good bases?  My two favorites were Skylar and Tru, but I actually liked Bevin and Lotus almost as much.  This was a great start to the year!

Maisie, Opal, Chloe

In all of the below photos, unless noted, the flakes are in the same order.  So, Chloe, Opal, Masie.  I couldn't capture these very well, so PLEASE feel free to check them out from someone else!
Chloe, Opal, Maisie over Farrah
These topcoats transform Farrah! I really love Maisie over it.

Over Cho
This combination was "meh" to me.  Not as nice as they are with Farrah!

Bevin
Same order.  These look nice irl.  Here, they all look the same.  Disappointing photo!

Skylar
These were gorgeous together!  I really didn't want to put anything over Skylar, but here they are!

Tru
Here is where you can really tell a difference between the top coats.  Chloe shows the pink, orange and green very well in this picture.  The other two look very similar.

Lotus
Another good(ish) photo of these.  Again, you can see the varying colors in Chloe quite well!

Maisie, Opal, Chloe Over White
The main difference you can see over white is the base color.  White seems to make the pink tone of the mylar to come out in all three of them, though you can see plenty of blue in Chloe.  These are two coats.

Maisie, Opal, Chloe over Black
Over black, the only difference I can really see between Maisie and Opal is that Opal has more flakes.  I used two coats of each on these, but Opal covers quite well.  You can also see the multitude of colors in Chloe over black!  As with most flakie polishes, this is my combo of choice.

Overall, the flakies are "meh."  I LOVE Chloe, but Maisie and Opal are just too similar to be excited about.  Unless you will be wearing them over super light colors (i.e. white or Farrah), I would get one and  skip the other.  Honestly, it doesn't matter which one either.  They are both mainly green flakies with blue duo chrome effect.  Application was typical with these.  Pretty easy to use and the effect builds nicely.

True and Fleck Effect will be available starting January 13 from Zoya and will be $8 each.

Which will you be picking up?  I want to hear your thoughts on the first official collection of 2012!  Thanks for looking!
