Del Sol (VERY pic heavy!)

Hi everyone!  A new post! YAY!  My internet is working now, but it's still very sporadic.  I don't know what the deal is!  Luckily it's moving very quickly when it is on!

Today I have a review of some of the coveted Del Sol polishes.  These babies are pretty neat!  They were a little hit and miss (you'll see why in a few), but I love the idea and the ones I picked were (mostly) very nice.

Secret Crush
SC is a nice peachy-pink color with a purple shift (indoors).  I really like it.  The formula was thin though, and this is four coats. That is a major turn off.  Which is too bad, because I like the color so much!  Outside, it turns a light plum, with that same purple shift.  It is really nice as well.

Foxy
This is a hot pink shade with a slight blue shimmer to it.  I, of course, love it!  The formula was still thin, but I got covered in three coats with this one.  Outside it is a nice purple color.  The blue shift gets kind of lost, but it is still subtly there.

Prima Donna
This is a JELLY!  Inside it's a coral jelly.  I love it!  I will be using it to make a jelly sammich sometime for sure!  Outside it turns to a darkish pink color.  Almost a magenta?  I'm not sure what to call it, but it's pretty :)  Since this is a jelly, it took four coats to cover as well.  It could be layered over something for fewer though.

Girls Night Out
Inside, GNO is a hot pink with gold shift.  Almost like China Glaze Strawberry Fields.  Maybe a little brighter.  Outside, it turns burgundy with the same gold shift to it.  I really, really like this one!  In both lights.  It was also the most opaque, with only two coats needed.

Heartbreaker
Heartbreaker is a classic red glitter, with silver pieces and a sheer red base.  Outdoors, the shade darkens to a burgundy color.  This is three coats of prettiness!

Rockstar
Rockstar is the disappointment of the bunch.  I noticed barely any color change at all.  It is a blue glitter with a little silver, and a (very) sheer blue base. Outdoors, it's a blue glitter with silver pieces and a sheer blue base.  It MAY have turned a little teal, but not enough to note.  I seriously don't think anyone but an addict would notice!  I barely did.

Del Sol nail lacquers change color based on UV exposure.  More exposure means a faster, more dramatic change.   I haven't gotten to test that theory since it is winter and the weather has been so crappy lately.  The day I took these was the must sun I'd seen in weeks!  For the most part, I was satisfied with the changes.  They all came with stickers on top of the bottles showing what they should look like in the sun.  None of the polishes, however, none of them changed enough to match the sticker color.  As I mentioned before, I didn't really see a change in Rockstar at all.  I was so disappointed.  It was supposed to be a dark green!  Bummer.

I do recommend that you try some of these.  Color change polishes are SO neat!  I would get Girls Night Out, Prima Donna and Foxy.  Skip Heartbreaker, Rockstar (obvs) and Secret Crush.  Also, check swatches online to make sure that they are going to be the same color they say they will!  You want to avoid some disappointment.

You can buy Del Sol at their website, along with various other color change products, for $10.  They can also be bought in some specialty stores (sally's has them online, and I hear the ABC store in Vegas and Hawaii has them... for example).

What do you think of these?  I'm sure some of you have them, I'd love to hear your experiences!  Thanks for looking!

  2. Oddly I saw 1 of these sitting on the make up counter at Walgreens last year...I bought it - it's the Secret Crush. I also was totally turned off by how watery the formula. was. Mine never seems to get a lavender as yours. I also did not know there were any of this line that had glitter/shimmer in them. Thought they were all in the more frost range. Thanks so much for doing this grouping. I will steer clear of Rockstar...it does not seem to have much going for it.

    1. The formula on that one did kind of suck... I'm wondering if it would look better over white?
