Halloween Challenge: Spiderwebs... And My Birthday!!

Hi everyone!  I have another challenge post today... This one I kind of like, but I'm kind of disappointed in.  I really wanted to wear this one this weekend, but I smeared it.  On the other hand, it really doesn't look that bad.  I'll let you decide.  :)
For my spiderweb mani I used the spun sugar technique.  I really like this technique, but it takes soooooo loooooonnnnnnng to do.  Both hands took me about 2 hours.  Oy!

The above photos are what they look like with topcoat.  I think it loses some of it's charm, really.  So, I added a picture of my left hand (no cleanup, no topcoat), to show you what it looks like when you first do it.  I really like it this way, but the brittle little strings break off and it doesn't last very long.  Boo.

Then I decided everything looks better with glitter.  Does it?  Meh.

Now, on to the exciting stuff!  It's my birthday tomorrow!  YAY!  I have to work though, so this will be my mani.  Nothing special as it will get ruined shortly after I arrive.  (boo)  We won't really do anything special either, since I'm too old.  lol  I actually spent my birthday money already, so no presents... but we might go to dinner and have cake.  We'll see!  Now, I know I haven't done a giveaway in awhile.  For that I am VERY sorry.  I just haven't had any money to spare :(  I think I'm going to do one now anyway!  It isn't going to be huge (sorry *sniffsniff*), but I'm hoping you will love it anyway!  I am going to allow the winner to pick six current collection polishes from China Glaze, Color Club, Orly, Or OPI (excluding holos) OR three from higher end brands (BL, DL, Zoya etc)  All you have to do is be a follower (of some form, please let me know how) and comment below telling me the best birthday present you ever got.  If you want me to email you as the winner, please include your email address.  Otherwise I will announce the winner on the blog in a dedicated post and they will have 72 hours to respond.  That's it!  I will pick the winner on October 25 and either pick up, or order, your choices!  Have fun and thanks for reading!

  2. well, it's getting more difficult to remember back to ALL of the birthdays that have passed for me. but i think one stands out as the best gift - for my 13th birthday, my mom surprised me with tickets to my first concert (rick springfield in 1985 - hush it now!). i still remember exactly how they were hidden on the back of the card ... what i picked out for my mom to wear, where we sat, and how amazing the whole night was. and to me, that is what makes a great gift, not necessarily a THING, but the memory! :) happy birthday!!

  8. Happy Birthday!! I think this looks like boucle' knit (with glittah!) and I like it! My favorite birthday present actually happens every year when my mom and I go shopping for lunch together. We don't get to do it often, so it's a treat for both of us. mwezirrs@gmail.com

  9. Happy (almost) birthday!

I don't think it turned out bad at all! I keep wanting to do one of these manis but I'm not sure I want to commit 2 hours to finish it! What did you use for your base color? It looks shimmery in your pics.

I'm old enough now that no one really celebrates my birthday either, but one of my favorite memories is when I used my birthday money to buy tickets to see Pink Floyd in concert when I was in college. The seats were in the nosebleed section, but the stadium was open and the laser show was to die for!

  13. Happy Birthday :))))).
My best birthday present was this year, when my parents and my boyfriend joined their money and bought me "nail polish closet" :). I made a drawing of one couple of months before that, and told them that one day, I will find someone to build me that. I was really surprised when I got home that day and found a new place for my polishes :)

  14. I hope you had a great Birthday yesterday! The best gift I can remember is a box of polish my sister sent me shortly after I got addicted to polish. There were some brands that I hadn't tried yet and I hadn't expected her to send me polish either so that was a nice surprise!

I'm following you via GFC: Ruth and my email is ruth.gistelinck@hotmail.com

    Thanks for the giveaway xx

  15. Kate, I am sorry I missed your birthday! I hope it was a great one. As for my best one, it was probably 16 yrs ago when then boyfriend (now hubby) made a shadowbox of what I meant to him. It was the most thoughtful thing anyone has ever done and I still have it today!

  18. Wow, 2 hours is a lot of time and requires a ton of patience, but the mani looks great.
My birthday is on December 27, right between Christmas and New Year's Eve, so I always feel like I have a week long birthday party, filled with presents, loved ones and a lot of fun. I received a lot of amazing presents over the years, but at the moment the one I remember the most was my first cat, that my parents decided to get me after almost an year of begging for a pet.

  19. Happy belated birthday! Mine is coming up but we don't usually do anything special there either. One of my favourite birthday gifts is the vintage compact that I carry with me every day in my purse. I admired it at an antiques show and couldn't afford it, but someone went back and picked it up as a surprise!
Oh and I follow via gfc (rachlovespenguins)
